WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PSYCHOTHERAPY AND LIFE COACHING?

Psychotherapy is more appropriate for people who are experiencing significant  emotional difficulties. The focus is on addressing psychological issues and symptoms, to help improve the quality of your life. Psychotherapy may  be covered by insurance, depending on a number of factors. Many insurance companies are also now covering teletherapy sessions (phone sessions and online sessions).  You must be a NYS resident in order to receive psychotherapy from me, regardless of whether it takes place in my office, over the phone or on the internet.

Life coaching is a goal-oriented and results-oriented process, in which we establish a collaborative relationship for the purpose of helping you meet your goals. Coaching is focused on the present and future, and on creating a more fulfilling life. In life coaching we can work on sorting out and setting personal or career goals, helping you to create a vision of what you want. We identify the factors that might be holding you back from pursuing your goals, and then create a pathway for accomplishing them. Life coaching is not about fixing emotional problems, and it's not covered by insurance. Both individual coaching and relationship coaching can be done either over the phone or in my office. Therefore, it's not necessary to live in my geographic location in order to coach with me. In fact, you can be located anywhere in the US.

HOW DOES RELATIONSHIP THERAPY DIFFER FROM RELATIONSHIP COACHING?

Relationship therapy is appropriate for couples who have been experiencing significant distress and serious relationship difficulties.

Relationship coaching is for relationships that are basically healthy. The coaching helps to solidify and strengthen the foundation of your relationship, which can include learning helpful strategies for managing conflict. It is an action-oriented process, and we focus on your goals for your relationship.

WHERE IS YOUR PRACTICE LOCATED?

Psychotherapy is no longer limited to in-office sessions. Due to recent changes in NYS law,  phone as well as internet-based psychotherapy sessions are now possible. So,  I am now able to offer psychotherapy to NYS residents in my office, over the phone or online. We can even use more of a hybrid approach, mixing some office sessions with phone and/or videoconferencing  (internet-based) sessions.

Coaching  is most often done on the phone, and it can also be done on the internet. Consequently, if you're looking for coaching, we can work together not matter where you're located. But, if you are local to the Rochester area, and you're interested in coaching, you also have the option of meeting in my office.
